Macanza Marine and Forest Parkland encompass the southern region of Zavora Bay in the Inharrime district of Mozambique approximately 400km to the north of the Mozambican capital, Maputo.
Unique in modern day Mozambique, much of this 200+ ha area has dense indigenous dune forest vegetation with an abundance of bird life and small game.
The parkland stretches south from central Zavora Bay and includes the great fresh water lake, Lagoa Poelela, the Macanza and Naoutsie forests along the Zavora and Macanza coastline towards Zavala district in the far south.

Lagoa Poelela
Newly completed luxuriously attired Casas on the eastern shores of Lake Poelela, approximately 2.5km from Macanza beach.
Lodge units consist of a main Casa with a smaller Casita on either side; in total 227sq m for a combined unit or 4 bedrooms with a large open kitchen/dining area.

ACTIVITIES |

- Scuba Diving – Zavora Bay is a fresh new world class diving destination with an abundance of varied and colourful marine life including whale sharks, manta and other ray species, different species of turtles and eels, to name but a few. The Klipfontein wreck, a Dutch Liner that sank off the Zavora coast in 1953 is a must for the more experienced diver.
- Lake activities include sailing, windsurfing, kayaks and canoes and sun downer cruises on Lake Poelela. Lagoa Poelela together with its main source of water, the Inharrime River forms an interesting expanse of fresh water covering an area of approximately 60km.
- Birding par excalance with special provision made for birding groups and individuals. Please visit our ever growing bird list on the Tsene Lagoa web site at www.tsenelagoa.com
- Horse riding – Forest and beach trails. Tsene Pony Club offers youth and children an opportunity to learn about horses and their care by becoming hands on involved in the daily routines of our grooms and stable hands. Less experienced riders are welcome to join in the fun.
- Beach activities – kilometres of pristine beaches with beautiful reef formations that make for excellent snorkelling opportunities. Hump Back whales visit Zavora Bay for a number of months each year and can be viewed from the comfort of a deck chair on quiet and remote Macanza beach.
- Environmental information centre and newly founded herbarium and indigenous nursery in Tsene Forest.
- Art gallery and working studio for the use of novice and experienced artists. Periodic art and photographic group workshops. Tsene is also the home of artist John Mulder with more information available about his work and ‘Tsene Arte Mozambique’ on his web site at www.artsage.co.za
- Group ‘camp’ facilities by arrangement for specialists groups such as divers, birding groups, yoga groups, artists, etc.
- Hiking – Interesting forest trials under canopies of indigenous trees and vegetation
- Eating and drinking – You are well provided for.
- Angling - Opportunities for ski boat rock and surf and fly fishermen aplenty in the area.
